Title: Get to know your fellow RSG members
Post by: Michael Dewsnip on July 14, 2013, 10:14:06 PM
As a quick way of introducing everyone to everyone, post a little bit about yourself!

Here's mine:

Name: Michael Dewsnip
Age: 33
Location: Hamilton
Occupation: Software developer
Porsche history: Just my trusty (usually) 944, bought in 2007.
If/when I buy another Porsche I'd like a: Cayman
Tracks driven: Hampton Downs, Taupo
Greatest Porsche moment: Probably the day I was driving at HD and saw Shane Van Gisbergen's V8 Supercar coming up behind me in my rear-view mirror (it wasn't behind me for long!). More generally though, those special days at the track where the weather is perfect, the car eagerly does everything you ask and you finish with a stupid grin on your face!
PCNZ member: Yes

Name: Rob Ho
Age: 38
Location: Jafaland
Occupation: Finance
Porsche history: 996 MK1 GT3, now gone
If/when I buy another Porsche I'd like a: GT3/RS
Dream Porsche: 959
Tracks driven: Hampton Downs, Taupo
Greatest Porsche moment: Every single time when I drove it. Once of the most interesting was putting two passengers into the back of the GT3 with a roll cage fitted. Don't try this at home! ;)
Downside of owning a Porsche: The cost! But I guess we are much better off than other prestige and performance marques.
PCNZ member: Of Course

Post by: Matt Burton on July 15, 2013, 05:34:38 PM
Name: Matt Burton
Age: 38
Location: Taupo and various other countries at times.
Occupation: Oil Field Wireline Engineer/consultant
Porsche history: 997.1 C2S with Aerokit since 2013
If/when I buy another Porsche I'd like a: Ohh, dunno - unlimited funds? 997.2 Turbo? Also like a really nice 993, or the RS 4.0.
Dream Porsche: Who wouldn't want to spend a few laps getting to know Moby Dick...(or killing yourself in it)
Tracks driven: Hampton Downs, Taupo
Greatest Porsche moment: Finally getting my first 911 (and then on the track for the first time), and being everything I thought it would be.
Downside of owning a Porsche: Fretting about parking the sucker anywhere in town..
PCNZ member: Will be...

Name: Doug Hanna
Age: 54
Location: One Tree Hill, Auckland
Occupation: MD of Terabyte Interactive Ltd (web design)
Porsche history: 2003 Cayenne S with 100,000km driving since 2005, lives under a cover most of the time. 2002 Boxster with 30k driven since purchase Nov 2011, daily driver.
[update Aug 9 2014] 2013 bought 2007 987 Boxster S and sold the 986 Boxster. Continued tracking the S then took the opportunity to own my dream car, a classic 964 air cooled red 1990 Manual Carerra 2 coupe which we named Lola. Purchased from RSG member Dave who bought it off RSG member Matt.
My next Porsche: would love the 911/50 anniversary edition
Tracks driven: Mount Cotton, Queensland (Porsche driving school), Brisbane race track, Puke, HD, Teratonga, Highlands, Timaru, Ruapuna, Taupo, Manfield (the last 6 with RSG)
Greatest Porsche moment: hanging onto the steering wheel of a 987 turbo on the Brisbane racetrack.
Downside of owning a Porsche: trying to sleep before or after a track day.
PCNZ member: Yes

Post by: John McMillan on July 15, 2013, 08:23:34 PM
Name: John McMillan
Age: 51
Location: Kohimarama, Auckland
Occupation: Banker
Porsche History: 1993 Turbo 3.6 (2001), 2001 996TT (2012) and 1990 964 C4 (2013).
My next Porsche: None, there is no more room in the garage and I seem to have a problem selling. But I can fit a GT3 if I really try!!!
Tracks Driven: Pukekohe (2003) and Hampton Downs (2013)
Greatest Porsche Moment: First drive in the Turbo 3.6. A long wait, well worth it.
Downside of owning a Porsche: You know a Toyota makes more sense, but you know it will never satisfy you after having driven a 911.
PCNZ Member: Yes

Name: Graeme Wong
age: 56
Location: Wellington
Occupation:  Company Director
Porsche History: 996 gt3 mk1, 987 Boxster S
Next Porsche: 72 911 built as an RS and 2.8 arrives august
tracks driven: Manfield, Taupo, Pukekohe (old track), Hampton Downs (only twice)
Greatest Porsche moment: Probably learning a few things at Mount Cotton one instructor telling me 'faster, keep it flat' (all the others saying 'take it easy brake at the cone') on the road course. Then the same instructor showing me how to trail brake on the reverse direction end of the straight with a downhill entry to a switch back right in a Boxster.  Previously the only thing I got was under steer on turn in and amazingly it was perfect first time with the car positively snapping into the apex but not in a loose tail way.  I couldn't believe the difference.
Downside?: Always wanting more...

Name: Paul Miller
Age: 37
Location: Mt Eden, Auckland
Occupation: Construction Project Management Consultant
Porsche history: 1st Porsche - my current one, a 1976 911 Carrera 3.0, however my Dad has owned 20 odd Porsches including early 911's, 930T, 928 and 944's, so I've had exposure to any Porsche built in the 70's and 80's.
Dream Porsche: A 73 RS (what else!), 993 RS comfort in riviera blue, or a 1974 Carrera 2.7 in lime green
Next Porsche: something I can put the wife and kids in - manual 993 C2 would be nice.........

Greatest Porsche moment: Chasing 3 Ferrari's around the track at NZFS in 2011. I managed to overtake 2! Traveling 260kph along the Hauraki Plains in Dad's 930 when I was 12 was fairly memorable. Driving John M's 964T only irritated that itch. Spinning Macca's 993 at Hamptons and seeing him trying to grab the wheel while spinning won't be forgotten anytime soon either....
Downside of owning a Porsche: The 'I wants' - I want to go faster, own more than one etc.
PCNZ member: Yes - currently a committee member

Porsche history: My still relatively new (to me) 997.1 Turbo
If/when I buy another Porsche I'd like a: Think I need to settle into this one before considering anything else. 991 GT3 and an older hot rod would definitely be members of my ultimate garage, alongside a 997 GT2RS.
Tracks driven: Hampton Downs
Greatest Porsche moment: Test driving my 997.1 North West of the city, deciding to open it up coming back in on the North Western and realising much too late that the analogue speedo was in miles not KM's, and that the drivers around me weren't driving exceptionally slow that day. Knew I had to own it after that point.
Downside of owning a Porsche: The fact that owning one doesn't feel like it's enough.
PCNZ member: Yes.

If/when I buy another Porsche I'd like a: GT3

Post by: Leong Goh on March 01, 2015, 09:07:20 PM
Name: Leong Goh
Age: 54
Location: Auckland
Occupation: Dentist
Porsche history: I bought a 997 C2S in 2005, kept it two years as I didn't get enough trackdays to warrant keeping it.  Did far more trackdays on the bike.  Been doing trackdays in the M5 recently and enjoying that - They gave me a Cayman GTS for a weekend - I'd be happy with this, but ordered the GT4 because.... It excites me :)
If/when I buy another Porsche I'd like a: GT4
Tracks driven: Pukekohe (old), Hampton Downs, Taupo, Manfeild, Teretonga, Highlands, Levels, Ruapuna, Phillip Island, Eastern Creek. Mt Cotton, Queensland International Raceway.

Greatest Porsche moment: During the time with my 911, I did the Porsche Driver Training at Mt Cotton Levels 1 and 2, then 2 and 3 on another occasion. During both events I managed to win the Top Gun Trophy and probably the best Porsche memory I have to date would be the nice things Tomas Mezera said about me at the Prizegiving. Also, there was a rather arrogant Lambo driving rich guy there who was also quite competitive. During the Prizegiving said that he'd never swear at Asian drivers again as I collected my trophy. Nice acknowledgement from one like him. The friend I went with recorded the whole thing on video, so that was pretty cool.
PCNZ member: Not yet
